Being a single mother by choice

More and more women are opting for single motherhood through assisted reproduction techniques. There are as many reasons as there are people:

  • Some choose this path because they feel it is the right time in their lives, regardless of their romantic situation.
  • For others, the “biological clock” factor plays a crucial role.
  • In addition, medical or health circumstances may influence this decision.

As a clinic specialising in reproductive medicine, we have extensive experience in single motherhood. We offer the most advanced and safest assisted reproductive techniques to help you achieve your dream of becoming a single mother.

What to expect from your first consultation:

  • At your first visit you will meet your gynaecologist and nurse who will accompany you throughout the process. The team also includes your personal assistant who will help you during the treatment and resolve any doubts you may have.
  • We will perform a general review of your health and a vaginal ultrasound to check the status of your uterus, tubes and ovaries.
  • A blood test that will show us the ovarian activity of the antimullerian hormone (AMH).
  • Your gynaecologist will ask you for information related to your fertility: previous pregnancies or miscarriages; if you have problems with your menstrual cycle; if you have undergone surgeries; if you are taking medication…

Assisted reproduction techniques

To determine the most suitable assisted reproductive technique for you, we will consider several aspects, such as your reproductive health status based on these initial evaluations, your age and any underlying infertility factors , as well as your individual preferences .

At Clinica Tambre, we offer different assisted reproduction options designed to guarantee a single mother’s pregnancy in a safe, legal and sanitary environment. In all these alternatives, the use of donor sperm is required. Our clinic has the first sperm bank in Madrid, and is a pioneer in Spain. Our track record of more than 40 years is a guarantee.

In certain cases, it may also be necessary to consider the use of donated eggs or embryos.

This is an option for young women without fertility problems. This technique consists of introducing selected spermatozoa from a donor into the woman’s uterus. Pregnancy occurs in the fallopian tubes as it happens naturally.

Your gynaecologist will assess, within your menstrual cycle, which is the most appropriate time to perform artificial insemination following your natural cycle. Alternatively, we can resort to stimulation of the eggs by medication to facilitate the meeting of the egg with the donor sperm.

This is the most common treatment. It is used in the cases of women over 35 years of age who are pursuing single motherhood or younger women who have not had success with artificial insemination.

Fertilisation of the egg with donor sperm takes place in the laboratory. The embryo is then transferred to the mother’s uterus.

We transfer a  single embryo to avoid a twin pregnancy and its possible complications, to preserve the health of the mother and the future baby.

If there are more embryos, they will be cryopreserved for the possible future expansion of your single-parent family.

If at your checkup we detect a low ovarian reserve or problems with the quality of your eggs, it may be advisable to consider egg donation. In this case, for double donation we use  eggs from a donor that are fertilised with sperm from a donor. Subsequently, the resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus at the optimal time.

We perform embryo transfer at the blastocyst stage, between the fifth and sixth day after fertilisation, as this increases the chances of a  successful pregnancy. At the same time, we will prepare your uterus to receive the embryo in the best possible conditions.

Embryo donation

One effective way to become a single mother is to consider using embryos donated by another person or couple.

This approach is more economical than other assisted reproduction treatments, as it only involves endometrial preparation.

In addition, the physical characteristics of the donors are taken into account in this process so that they resemble those of the recipient woman.

SPERM BANK

Tambre has had the first sperm bank in Madrid for more than 40 years. It is also one of the first in Spain.

The importance of donor selection

Donation in Spain is anonymous. The Act also requires that phenotypic characteristics such as race, weight, height, hair and eye colour, similar to the patient be respected.

Sperm donor selection is carried out in a rigorous manner. Your trust is our commitment. Our candidates undergo exhaustive controls before becoming part of our gamete bank. To donate sperm the candidate:

The tests we perform on donors:

Genetic compatibility test

We perform genetic compatibility testing (GCT) or genetic matching on our donors, which detects mutations in the genes responsible for the most severe recessive diseases. In this way, it is possible to prevent hereditary diseases. It is necessary to contrast it with the other person who provides gametes.

Facial biometrics to find the ideal donor

At Tambre we go one step further in the search for the donor most compatible with you. We use the Fenomatch system, a platform that helps our team to choose the best possible donor by using improved selection tools. Beyond the phenotypic requirements established by law, at Tambre we use artificial intelligence to search not only for the candidate who shares similar eye colour, hair colour, etc., but also for the one who has the greatest facial resemblance to the patient.

Exclusive donor programme

At Tambre we have an exclusive sperm donor programme that allows us to find the ideal donor.
